* In the South Asian continent, alongside the millionaires of Bangkok and Hong Kong, live two thirds of the world’s extreme poor- 1 billion people earning less that 50p per day.
* In the race to escape deprivation, whole villages in Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Burma are complicit in the sale of their most valuable property-children.
*More than 50,000 children are trafficked every year in S. Asia. Thousands are sold into slavery. Thousands are pawned into prostitution and forced labour.
*More than 1.2 million destitute, homeless or orphaned children in India beg on the streets, work for 14-18 hours at a stretch at quarries, restaurants and factories.

At Wooden Choice Company we are currently supporting a charity we have strong relationship with. The charity is called 'The Fathers Children' and here are the details of what they are all about...
To reach out to the most desperate children. Core mission comprises of identifying regions where children are being trafficked and are under greatest risk. Sexual exploitation of children is one of the worst abuses in the world. Thousands of children, especially in S. Asia, have been forced into prostitution, some even before their tenth birthday.
Our mission is rescuing such children.
To reach to poverty wracked families who sell or pawn their children for a partly sum of money to pay off debts. Helping and educating the families, and taking care of their children through children homes where they receive shelter, education, love and care.
To reach out to the millions of Orphaned, poor and destitute Children in South Asia, rescuing them from the streets, from bonded forcible labor and giving them a home, education, taking care of all their material, physical and spiritual needs. These homes are known as The Father's Children Homes.
To identify routes of child trafficking and to stem the rot by campaigning against it and by attacking at the root causes. Poverty, unawareness, literacy are the major problem that leads to trafficking. Poverty, homelessness and family breakdown are some of the reasons that lead to sexual exploitation. Children may be forced or lured into the sex industry as a means of economic survival. Sadly this is fuelled by the rise of child sex tourism, where travelers from richer countries visit poorer countries to exploit children.
To feed the malnourished and under privileged children in regions hit by recurring famines.
To provide succor to children who have lost their parents due to violence in conflict hit regions in South Asia. These children are taken into our homes where they live and study.
The homes that we run become a family to all such children and takes care of all their needs until they grow up and are ready to take claim of the rightful destinies that God has planned for them.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE FOLLOWING STORY OF A RESCUED CHILD NOW IN THE HOME OF THE FATHERS CHILDREN...
I am Miala. There was no hope in my life after I lost my parents tragically. I was lonely and was left to fend for myself. I come from a very poor family from a remote place. There are no roads or means of communication in our village.
I was in a very dangerous situation and would have been lost forever.
But God in his mercy saved me from the clutches of the devil.
Today I live and study in The Children's Home. I have found hope and meaning in life. I have experienced and I am experiencing God's amazing love towards me through the wonderful staff who are like parents to me. The Children Home is like a home and family to me.
I study in Class VI. I can speak English now. When I grow up, I want to become a doctor and help children in my village, many of whom are suffering from malnutrition and disease.
